Honor our fallen military heroes at Lejeune Memorial Gardens
Jacksonville is home to Camp Lejeune and is steeped in military history. Lejeune Memorial Gardens is a gorgeous, yet quiet and retrospective location nestled in the North Carolina pines with azalea’s dotting the landscape. A visit here provides a way to appreciate our military and teach young people about American history. The Beirut Memorial is dedicated to those that lost their lives in Beirut on a peace keeping mission in 1983. The 9/11 Memorial is a piece of the NY Twin towers and was brought to Jacksonville to thank our Marines by the New York Fire and Police Department. The Vietnam Memorial is only one of two in the United States that list the names of every person lost. Our newest monument is the Montford Point Marines Memorial that honors our African American marines that served our country during World War II.
As you leave the Memorials, you will see the Freedom Fountain, dedicated to all of our active duty serving our country. Stop by our local Jacksonville Art Gallery and then enjoy lunch or coffee at Biagio’s. For some fresh seafood, stop by for lunch or dinner at The Marina Café, located on the riverfront, and take a river cruise afterwards.
