Lynnwood Park Zoo

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Well, not quite, but Lynnwood Park Zoo does boast an array of domestic and exotic animals from around the globe nestled in a large park just a few miles outside of Jacksonville on Highway 258. For a minimal admission fee, you and your family can enjoy the experience of a zoo and nature park just minutes from home.

At the entrance to the park is a serene pond with picnic tables, stocked with hand-fed trout who "jump" at the opportunity to steal a few bites of fish feed tossed from the shore. Grab a map and off you go on a self-guided tour, with over a mile of exhibits and nature trails. Among the animals featured at the park are wild sheep, deer and antelope from around the globe, emus, prairie dogs, ocelots, serval cats, llama, fox, capybara, and a variety of birds and reptiles.

Gary Evans, the park's owner and operator does an exceptional job of captivating children with a touch-station during the tour, allowing close up visits with Japanese chickens, prairie dogs, corn snakes, and box turtles among others. The Zoo is an exceptional family destination, brimming with educational facts and learning opportunities, leisure nature trails, picnic tables and shaded paths, and is the only zoo in Onslow County.
