Happy 4th of July, y’all!  There’s a great weekend ahead and we’re excited about all the local events and happenings to see fireworks, celebrate your patriotic spirit and have some good old-fashioned fun.  Here are 8 celebrations happening this weekend.  We look forward to seeing you in #OnlyinOnslow.

Freedom Festival at Onslow Pines Park

Sunday, July 4th

Onslow County Parks and Recreation will celebrate its 37th annual Freedom Festival on July 4th, 2021 from 5 pm. to 9 pm. Come out for an evening of live music and fireworks!  Special note:  There will be no shuttle transportation or kids zone this year.  Here are some of their tips for a great time.

Tips for a Great Fourth of July:

  • Arrive early
  • Coolers welcome, no glass containers
  • Grills are allowed in the tree area between the festival area and the little league ballfield/concession area
  • Lost children and lost and found located at the information booth
  • Restrooms-located at the information booth, concession stand by the ballfields, and portable toilets throughout the festival area
  • Our parks are pet-friendly, but for this event, dogs are not allowed
  • Alcohol is not allowed
  • There will not be any shuttle transportation this year.
  • Have FUN and be SAFE!

Swansboro’s 4th of July Celebration

The Town of Swansboro is happy to announce it will host activities to celebrate the Fourth of July in Downtown Swansboro!

Sunday, July 4th

Enjoy live music with the TAMS from 6 pm to 10 pm at the Harry C. Pugliese “Pug” Pavilion.  There will be a couple of food snack vendors and we encourage patrons to visit the downtown restaurants. Street closures will begin at 3 pm

Monday, July 5th (rescheduled from Friday, 7/2 due to inclement weather forecasted.)

A fireworks display will be held on Monday, July 5, 2021 at 9 pm.  Street closures will begin at 5:00 pm.  Church Street dockage will be limited to vessels with reservations only. Boat traffic will be limited in the area around Spoil Island off the Swansboro Waterfront beginning at 8:30 pm until the fireworks conclude. In addition to street closures, all public docks will be closed to pedestrian traffic.

Streets affected by the closures include:

  • All of Front Street
  • All of Church Street
  • Water Street from NC 24 to Broad Street
  • Main Street from Elm Street to the water
  • Elm Street will be open for Southbound traffic
  • Walnut Street will be open for Northbound traffic

Saltwater Grill Hosts Jim Quick & Coastline Band

Monday, July 5th (rescheduled from Friday, 7/2 due to inclement weather forecasted.)

Saltwater Grill is ready to get this week started with Jim Quick & Coastline on Monday, July 5th at 6:30 pm just prior to the Town of Swansboro’s fireworks show at 9 pm.  Admission is $10.

4th of July Celebration at Camp Lejeune

Sunday, July 4th

Celebrating America’s birthday is a longstanding tradition aboard Camp Lejeune!  This event is open to DOD cardholders and their guests only. The venue opens at 8 p.m.

Parking will be located at the Camp Lejeune MCX and Commissary parking lots. Give yourself extra time to get from the parking lot to W.P.T. Hill Field. It is approximately a 20 to 30-minute walk. Parking on the shoulder is not permitted. Violators will be ticketed by PMO. To maximize our parking and minimize our footprint, we encourage people to carpool to the event. Note: There will not be tram service this year from the parking lots to the event site. Additionally, Holcomb Blvd. will be closed from Birch St. down to the McHugh Blvd. traffic circle starting at 5 pm. Traffic guards will be in place to control the flow of vehicles and direct patrons to appropriate parking locations.

Accessible parking will be available at the Hadnot Point Plaza (Bldg. 84).

In case of inclement weather on July 4, the event will be canceled and the fireworks will NOT be rescheduled. Visit for up-to-date status.

Liberty Festival in Holly Ridge – CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER

Friday, July 2nd – Canceled Due to Inclement Weather.  Stay tuned for a possible Rain Date.

The Town of Holly Ridge will be hosting its annual Liberty Festival on Friday, July 2nd, 2021. The festival will be located at the Holly Ridge Municipal Park from 4 pm to 10 pm, with fireworks at 9 pm. Live music with The Carolina Band and The Imitations. Vendors, Music, Food, Rides and Fireworks!

Freedom Fest at Lee Baysden Pond with Juniper Creek Outfitters

Saturday, July 3rd

Juniper Creek Outfitters is having a full day of outdoor festivities at Lee Baysden Pond including a panfish poker run and a kids bank tournament along with live music, great food and shopping vendors, followed by fireworks at 9 pm.  See their Facebook Event Page for all the details and how to contact them to get involved.


Enjoy live music by International Bluegrass Jamboree winners Billy and the Kids, award-winning songwriter/singer John Jones, Cowboy Earl and special guests. Music sponsored by Earl Jones Music School. The music is free for all and they also invite you to throw in a line too!


Dirty Tacos and Mas, Hawaiian Kine Shaved Ice, Southern Squeeze, and the Fountaintown Volunteer Fire Dept (BBQ sandwiches) will be serving up food and drinks. Please come support all our wonderful food vendors!


The Flipn’ Axe mobile trailer and cornhole games will be set up along with many different vendors including 3 boys fishing, Muddy Toes Boutique, Oh Danny Boy Boutique, One Twenty-one Designs, Trendy Threads, Initials, Paparazzi, Scentsy, Mary Kay, Wreaths, Two Crafty Sisters, Cliche design, Kelly’s Custom Engraving, and more!

The local Fountaintown Volunteer Fire Department will also be on the scene helping with parking, traffic control, and on the scene if anyone needs medical help or gets too hot.

Ocean City Jazz Festival

Saturday, July 3rd

The Ocean City Jazz Festival will not host their event this year at North Topsail Beach – a decision that was made due to Covid-19 restrictions.  However, they will have a hybrid-virtual event on July 3, 2021, at the Clayton Center in Clayton, NC.

There will be a limited live audience at the Clayton Center and the event will be live-streamed via Facebook and YouTube.  Tickets to the live event can be purchased through the Clayton Center at 919-553-1737 or at
