Recognized for its high concentration of young families, it’s no wonder Onslow has so many family-friendly ways to have fun. An indoor trampoline park, a skating rink, and laser tag are popular spots for families, rain or shine.
Spend the day out in the country at Mike’s Farm, where you can introduce the little ones to farm life and show them where food comes from before it arrives on a kitchen table. Pick strawberries in the spring, choose a pumpkin in the fall and take a nighttime hayride through a maze of twinkling lights during the holidays. You’ll love that your littles are using their imagination at Zing Zumm Children’s Museum of Jacksonville, where they can dress up and pretend to be a dentist and anchor a weather report at a news desk.
The hands-on grocery shopping experience may be the most popular. Grab your bicycles and check out the area’s biking trails, then have a snack at one of the picnic shelters available at Onslow’s numerous parks and playgrounds. Head over to Seaview Fishing Pier, where you can bait a hook and fish for mullet and Spanish Mackerel from the longest fishing pier on the North Carolina coast. If you don’t have time to fish, buy a spectator pass for $1 and walk with your family down to the end of the pier, where the biggest fish are caught and the tallest fishing tales are told.
While you’re in the area, stop by the Onslow County Environmental Education Center for a hands-on interpretation of the local environment. They’ll get a kick out of the black bear and alligator.
