Onslow County is home to beautiful North Carolina beaches!  With more than 30 miles of family-friendly, uncrowded coastline, our North Carolina beaches are the perfect place for a relaxing beach vacation. Our beach areas let you enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean without distractions. The waters in our North Carolina beaches aren’t too rough; you can wade through the waves or grab a boogie board and enjoy the surf! For those looking for challenging and fun water sports, kayak rentals are readily available. Or, simply walk along the water to take it all in! You might see families building sandcastles, couples collecting seashells along the frothy waves, or savvy fishermen posted sporadically along the shore, hoping to catch a Spot or Mullet on their hooks.

The avid sportsman or fisherman will love the combination of warmer Gulf Stream waters and cooler inshore waters which yield tons of fishing opportunities year-round. In the cooler months, cool seaside breezes and warm sunshine mean great weather for exercise or a brisk winter walk. At the end of the day, spectacular pink sunsets are the perfect close to a long day on one of our North Carolina beaches.

Our three unique North Carolina beaches cater to a wide variety of visitors and local alike. Find out more about each of these beaches below from parking and beach accesses to pet rules and activities.

North Topsail Beach, located on the south end of Onslow, is our largest beach with plenty of beach rentals and parking. The easygoing atmosphere and quiet beaches make North Topsail Beach a top attraction for visitors including family vacations to quiet retreat for couples during the off season. With plenty of uncrowded beaches to enjoy, you can fully unplug and enjoy fun on the water, from long walks to boogie boarding, picnics to paddling. Or open your beach chair and spend the day by the water with your favorite book!

Bear Island of Hammocks Beach State Park is a 4-mile-long, undeveloped barrier island located in Swansboro. This rugged destination is a great place to get in touch with nature. You can relax on this secluded beach, kayak along the various trails or camp out for the night in the summer months. CLOSED for the Summer of 2024 for construction for the ferry service and camping.

Onslow Beach located aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune is open to all authorized DoD ID cardholders with proper base access. Service members and their families enjoy the family-friendly appeal of Onslow Beach with restroom facilities and a mini-mart near the beach parking area.
